1996 is the centenary of the birth of Howard Hawks, one of the great directors of American cinema. This anthology collects together writings from around the world on the director of such films as "Bringing up Baby", "The Big Sleep", "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", and "Rio Bravo".
About the authors:
Jim Hillier is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Film and Drama at the University of Reading. He has edited two volumes of translations from Cahiers du cinema and is the author of The New Hollywood. Peter Wollen is the author of Signs and Meaning in the Cinema, Raiding the Icebox, and other writings on cinema and contemporary culture.
