The book is written in an accessible style by media staff at the University of Portsmouth, UK, all of whom have backgrounds in media production or journalism. The book covers the making of documentaries from concept through production to post-production and includes close readings of documentary makers' intent and target audiences.

About the Author:
Searle Kochberg is course leader of the BA Moving Image program at the University of Portsmouth. His fellow contributors are colleagues at the University of Portsmouth with industry portfolios as follows: Jane Young (director), Damian Toal (editor), Janice Kearns (production manager), Ron Geesin (composer), Colin Denahy (technical manager), William Garrison (director), Marie Womack (journalist).
