Although James Mason is one of the great film actors of the mid-twentieth century, he is not as closely identified with film noir as are other icons like Humphrey Bogart or Barbara Stanwyck. Mason appeared in a wide variety of films throughout the 1940s and 1950s, and his contributions to the classic noir cycle during its heyday are significant.
