With profiles spotlighting the many different facets of the woman, AKA Lucy details how Ball changed the face of comedy and the entertainment industry. It sheds new light on the star's history, from her childhood through hard-scrabble days trying to make it in show business, falling head over heels in love and embarking on one of the great romances of the twentieth century, to becoming the biggest star in the world, a pioneer in television, and an icon for the ages. Filled with photos and highlighted by bright illustration and design, this is a volume almost as vivid and entertaining as the woman herself.

Revue de Presse:
"This perfectly supplements the many books about Ball by contributing new insights with heart and humor."―Library Journal

"A substantial tribute to one of the most beloved entertainers of the 20th century. Pop-culture historian Royal’s picturesque book about Lucille Ball (1911-1989) begins with a reverential foreword by Amy Poehler . . . Making effective use of such visual elements as photos, timelines, pull quotes, and lists, Royal shows how Ball was not just a Hollywood star, but also a modest, hardworking, kind individual.

A satisfying, brightly colored biography about a comedy legend."

―Kirkus

"A.K.A. Lucy would be a fine introduction for readers curious about TV's pioneering comedienne; those already besotted with Lucy will want to pull up a glass of Vitameatavegamin before tucking into delicious esoterica."―Shelf Awareness for Readers, Starred Review

"Fact and television fiction are presented beautifully in both visual and conceptualized chapters making Royal’s book one to remember, enjoy, love and respect while realizing Lucille was of a master class and always will be." – Rage "Recommends"―Rage "Recommends"
