Since the early days of film noir, hundreds of television programs--including pilots, series and anthology episodes--have adopted its distinctive style, themes and subjects. This encyclopedia--the most comprehensive work yet published on television noir--covers more than 650 programs in total and describes more than 270 series in detail.
In addition to crime dramas, there are horror, fantasy, science fiction, and other programs, even rare comedies that meet the description of noir (e.g. Glynis and Sledge Hammer). Entries include many rare and thought-to-be lost series (such as The Detective's Wife and Crime with Father), and special sections catalog both aired and unaired pilot films, as well as planned noir series that were never produced (such as Suture Girl, Black Magic Girl, and Mr. and Mr.).
