The title chosen by Pauline Kael for this classic collection of her film writings reflects a period of prolonged and sensitive commitment to a medium which was going through an era of profound and exciting change. The late sixties saw great cultural and political upheavals reflected in such films as Godard's Weekend, Kubrick's 2001 and Bellochio's China is Near. This volume also deals with films that are now recognized classics: Funny Girl, Bullit, Barbarella and Yellow Submarine, among others.
